Newcomer Women Complete WESAC’s Settlement Confidence Program

WESAC Foundation proudly celebrated the graduation of a new cohort of women from its Settlement Confidence Program — a 4-week empowerment initiative designed to help newcomer and refugee women transition into life in Canada with confidence, clarity, and community support.

The program was created for women navigating complex challenges such as cultural adjustment, language barriers, isolation, and a lack of understanding of available support systems. Over the course of the training, participants gained practical tools for rebuilding their lives, including:

What the Women Learned During the Program

  • Accessing community resources: Understanding how to find food programs, settlement services, libraries, childcare supports, and newcomer agencies.

  • Rights and responsibilities: A breakdown of Canadian laws, tenant rights, employment standards, and women’s safety protections.

  • Communication & confidence-building: Activities to help women express themselves, advocate for their needs, and feel heard.

  • Overcoming cultural & emotional barriers: Discussions on mental wellness, overcoming fear, and adjusting to a new environment.

  • How to navigate public services: Introduction to housing systems, job platforms, health services, and government programs.

Throughout the program, many women shared that this was the first time they felt “seen, supported, and finally not alone.” The sense of sisterhood and learning together helped them rebuild hope at a crucial time of transition.

Graduation & Networking Event

The training concluded with a certificate ceremony where each participant was recognized for her courage and commitment.
WESAC then hosted a networking session that connected the women with partner organizations, settlement agencies, and employment resources — helping them take practical next steps.

WESAC will continue supporting these women through follow-up mentorship and referrals.
